ENTRY TRELLIS, RETAINING WALL & FOOTBRIDGE – Spring 1999

Site

Bradner Gardens Park
1730 Bradner Place South
Seattle, WA

Description

The HSW studio built the east entry, an arbor, and street retaining wall on the south side of the park and the footbridge over the streambed. The arbors are supported by gabion columns built from unpainted steel and heavy wire mesh that are filled with quarry spall. Some of the gabions in the south arbor are reliquaries for old lawnmowers and yard tools. Cedar benches and a cast concrete table welcome visitors at the east gate. The reinforced concrete footbridge was cast in place and has a low laminated cedar railing.
