ENTRY & PAVILION – Spring 2000
Site
Bradner Gardens Park
1730 Bradner Place South
Seattle, WA
Description
Building on work started the previous year, the HSW Studio built the central pavilion and west entry arbor. The pavilion has a leaf-shaped roof of cedar skip sheathing covered with site fabricated Galvalume roofing panels. The glulam support beams were fabricated in Gould Court at the Department of Architecture and trucked to the site for installation on Earth Day 2000.
The west entry arbor mirrors the materials of the early arbors – steel, wire mesh, and cast-in-place concrete. It features four planter boxes for annual color, trellises for vines, and a wavy bench that faces the future children’s play area. The main theme of the park, Urban Agriculture, helped determine the materials palette as well as the need for durability, longevity, and safety.
